 I m gonna leave 2022 and enter the 2023 with this one.Coi Leray has been around for quite some long but there wasn't any major hit in her portfolio.Well things change as fast as you snap your fingers and her bold new single might do the difference.Cause it's bold to sample one of the foundations of rap music from the pioneers Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five.Ever since 1982 rap music with the "Message" became a brand new genre with a worldwide appeal.Since then many things have changed over the years but one thing is for sure.The global domination of rap, hip hop, trap and whatever was born from this very song.Now "Players" by Coi Leray which uses "The Message" might become a worldwide hit just like Latto did few months ago.This song is so under my skin that makes me repeat "Players" all the time...

 As 2022 becomes a past the 80s in music are all over the place in so many ways.To tell you the truth i m glad i was there from day one and lived all these great songs and music the day they were released.This cover in 1992 by Whitney Houston was a tribute not only to women but also to Chaka Khan who first released back in 1978.Whitney's version is considered one of her big hits and it's a part of the "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" ost.Talented and underrated SG Lewis who i love dearly made a new version of  Houston's cover worthy to her legacy and totally a must play whenever you want to feel the magic Whitney brought to this world.

 We are getting higher and higher in drama state as Adam Lambert releases the second song from his upcoming full of iconic covers album.There are some words like "Footloose", Bonnie Tyler, Jim Steinman that are written with golden letters throughout the years.Picking "Holding Out For A Hero" Adam Lambert puts himself to a test.Maybe he is one of the few that can cover almost anything and sound great.Allthough the music arrangment in this cover sounds a little bit strange and a little bit far from the original Adam knows how to lift things to the highest level.

 Now why could possibly someone want a club version of this song is something you will have to ask yourself but here it is.Since something becomes very successful there is always going to be a dance version for the djs and the clubs even if you don't need it.Joel Corry makes a whole different "Made You Look" with bouncing tech house "guccies" and dropdowns to make you hear in a bigroom.Now if this remix sounds awkward you should stick to the original version or.....look elsewhere.

FUNKY FAMILY - LAST XMAS

 If you haven't lived the period of vinyl releases back then when 7" or 12" for songs like this one was a ceremony then you missed a great part of music.Touching, unfolding and the smell of a physical release is somthing i will always remember.Vinyl record collectors are some kind of family to me that's why i keep searching for oldies in record stores.Wham's "Last Christmas" at some point got it deserved the Uk number one long after it;s release but it still misses the Christmas Uk number one a title that no other single deserved it more.The copywrite for this song was long sold by George Michael in order to battle his record company that's why remixes or covers of this iconic song keep coming up.Funky Family are using the original vocals from the song with not many interventions and since today is a day of remembering the passing of George Michael it seemed a nice idea to offer a little starlight of Christmas.

Crosses are a duo coming from the Deftones and for the past two years they are releasing covers right before Christmas.This time they decided to cover a George Michael song "One More Try" which is pretty much exactly the same with the original with a touch of Prince electronic drum machine in it to make the slight difference.Give it a try as this day is the day to remember George Michael as well...

 Oh no....Ladbaby did it again i think for a fifth consecutive year."Food Aid" is this year's Uk Christmas number one denying Wham what they deserve for years now.The other contestant was "Christmas Drillings" by Sidemen which depending the new releases on Christmas eve it was much better choice but it didn't have the charity factor.It would also be the first rap song as Christmas number one but they missed their chance.Anyway it's not a bad song and probably Sidemen will return next year to the Uk charts after this spotlight.

 Bad Bunny closes 2022 with a new collaboration with Nengo Flow for "Gato De Noche" aka "Cat Of The Night".These two have a long history in releasing singles together and since Bad Bunny had a huge year in The Usa i suppose this one will make it also to the charts right after holiday season.It's strange but Bad Bunny was the number one artist this year in America but in Europe almost got ignored apart from his fans.If you are a fan of urban latin music then probably this one will get you.

 In some Europeans countries like Greece this song became popular due to a huge promotion from Makar's record company.Since Tiesto made a remix for "Mood" that means that there is still a big support for this song to become a European hit.And you know that there are many times that some songs found the success long after their first release.And since djs are playing a big part in spreading "the word" R3hab joined the club with a brand new remix for "Mood".This one has more an edm "mood" for obvious reasons and let's wait till summer to see what happens with Makar's bubbling hit.

 This is one of my most played songs last month and if you didn't get the message it's never too late to go find the original version.Although there wasn't any need for a dance version of "Feel It Coming", Benga and Sam Frank made one for the djs in case the hype needs to be spread from the dancefloors.I m sure that Lady Blackbird's song will remain underrated but miracles sometimes do happen and Tik Tok plays a great deal nowdays.Of course the original version is the best version but in any case here is the remix..

 I never thought that in 2022 i would talk in my blog about Jennifer Rush.The American singer who in the 80s had huge hits in Europe with "I Come Undone" or her cover on the"The Power Of Love" by Laura Branigan was ignored in the USA and the music expatriated singer became a superstar in Europe that she will always be loved.And since the 80s music is so influantial to our days this remix by the German duo Stereoact to one of her hits "Ring Of Ice" from 1984 was a nice surpise.Her deep voice once again on my speakers now how cool is that..

 He was one of my favourite remixers in 2022. I m talking about Paul Woolford that made songs better sometimes with his remixes and offered a chance to dance to some of the biggest hits in 2022.Now "All By Myself" had the great idea to use Depeche Mode's "Enjoy The Silence" melody but it didn't work so far.This remix by Woolford is made for dancefloors as always but it's also more contemporary for the Uk market.Too bad Alok is so overlooked in the charts he is so talented..

As the year ends i see more and more people posting what they bought, heard or loved from music this year.And you know what digital music is so poor in showing to others.Back in the days i could show you the singles i bought, the albums i loved by touching the sleeves but today only few buy music in physical form and even when they do there are few out there to purchase.Back in the days when music was touchable there were tons of great singles and albums and you didn't know what to choose from.Today i see music influencers on the social media reviewing albums from artists like Charli XCX or Rina Sawayama and so on by saying how great albums were and what impact they made in their pop music life.Yes there is good music out there but it can't be compared with music from the 80s and artists from the past and that's the truth.Charli XCX yes had a good pop album but it made no impact to music in general.Only 2 or three albums this year had this privilege and this is really poor.

Maybe that's why so many artists look back and choose from the past so much.It's because the impact of yesterday's music infused with our dna and remains there as a secret memory.Chris Rea's "Driving Home For Christmas" is a classic and Dermot Kennedy made a cover for it this holiday season.What i like is that he made it his own and didn't actually repeat it.Take a listen..

 They won best new artist in the Uk and it will be announced in the forthcoming Brits on February.The girl band Flo are serving soul music as it was and stopped being in the charts for quite sometime.Thank god there are many artists lately that they are turning their back on commercial rap and spend time and effort to bring back this genre that in the past created many hits and brought us great artists.In order to serve soul and RnB you have to own a great voice and these girls they do.Their brand new single "Losing You" is not commercial and i find it difficult to reach the highest positions of the charts but believe me sometime they will...

CENTRAL CEE - LET GO

 The problem with rap music is that they can't generate original melodies for the songs so most of the times they seek a sample or a chorus from another song.And if that song is a global hit like Passenger's "Let Her Go" then it will find Cental Cee's new single one of the new Uk hits for 2023.Make no mistake that right after the holidays many of the songs you already know they ll come back in the highest positions both in Uk as in Usa.Of course Central Cee is a Uk rapper with huge success in his country but keeps his glory indoors.I like Passenger's melody so much that makes me wanna hear again "Let Go".

 When dubstep meets western spaghetti film then what can go wrong?This collaboration between Zeds Dead and Griz is not just a track.It's the epitomy of sampling and heavy basslines with the genre of dubstep where everything can happen.Using Ennio Morricone's "The Ecstacy Of Gold" from the 1966 movie "The Good, The Bad & The Ugly" is just one thing.The other thing is how they use it, the epic breakdowns, the right melody and the electronic fireshots that will blow your mind.This is art and one of the best dubsteps i ve heard in a long time.This definitely gets you to an ecstasy in so many ways...

SWEDISH HOUSE MAFIA ft CONNIE CONSTANCE - HEAVEN TAKES YOU THERE (JACQUES LU CONT REMIX)

 Some of their fans expected from the return of Swedish House Mafia a pure Edm sound like before so there was some kind of disappointment when they realized that they moved forward.For me messing more with electronic elements makes them a trio that evolved in their dance sound.Their collaboration with The Weeknd twice shows that for now they turned in the right direction.The release of their album didn't find a huge success as it was expected but that's alright as long as they are on the right path.'Heaven Takes You There" with Connie Constance on vocals was one of the stand out singles concerning the charts and the impact it made. It was quite a surprise to see Jacques Lu Cont aka Stuart Price messing with this song doing a remix.He takes it in a totally different direction  but i m not sure i like it that much.I have a big respect for this guy and what he did for music in the past decades that i can't overlooked it.

 There is no doubt that in summer 2023 this one will be one of the most played songs in the clubs and David Guetta's remix will be among others a favourite choice.This remix can't get any unhollier than this cause Guetta knows about music sins throughout the years.Although there are some rumours about an "Unholy" part II there is no official confirmation yet.Kim Petras may not have a big success like this again but David Guetta will just as Sam Smith will.Now be sure to turn up the volume on this extended acid mix...

 .....And it ain't never gonna be.I m sorry Whitney but we are always gonna cry for you.For missing your voice for all that you couldn't handle and put yourself into.Such a waste, such an artist.The industry once more tries to make money over her legacy but the fans will recieve a Christmas present with the release of "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" movie starring Naomi Ackie and an album with most of her hits some in remix or live versions we already know but some brand new stuff like this one."Don't Cry For Me" was an unreleased acapella recording of a Bebe & Cece Winans song from 1988 that Whitney never put on an album.But there is now with the help of Clive Davis and Sam Feldt who did a really good job with this one.The Ost has 35 tracks of pure Whitney magic that never fades no matter what.

 Ok at some point it's getting ridiculous every Christmas this pair to get the Uk Christmas number one even if it's for a good cause.Enough with the sausage rolls and the tradition of every single year either them or Mariah Carey being on the top of the charts that period.It's boring not to mention that this cover of "Do They Know It's Christmas" is simply awfull.Ok do the right thing help others but let's get on with it.The Band Aid people will pleased with the cause but i m not sure they are pleased with the outcome of this recording even if LadBaby are not singers.Money saving expert Martin Lewis is helping this effort anyway he can but please God no don't make me hear that one again..

TOPIC ft HRVY - ALL OR NOTHING

 German producer Topic keeps producing dance hits but strangely his biggests so far had a sample from the past.This one doesn't use one but it has HRVY on vocals.This easy to use from the very start "All Or Nothing" that marks it from time 0.01 is simply an easy radio friendly dance track but so very heard of in so many other dance productions by Meduza etc.It's not that i don't like it but it will take a lot of effort from the radio to establish that in my playlist...

SZA - KILL BILL

 This week was a Metro Boomin week but the next one is dedicated to SZA.Almost all songs from her "SOS" album will enter Billboard with at least two entering the top 10.The highest new entry will make this song which was not promoted as the first single but after the huge streaming it recieved pretty soon SZA will release a video for it."Kill Bill" sounds like Saint Etienne meeting Portishead in a soulful way.It has this bizzare essence of 70's French pop that makes it nostalgic and at the same time so one step ahead from all the rest releases.Her album will definitely debut at number one and i confess its my guilty pleasure...

SAM RYDER - PUT A LIGHT ON ME

 On Friday's Uk chart there will be a three way run for the number one between last year's Elton John and Ed Sheeran "Merry Christmas", Wham's "Last Christmas" and Mariah Carey winning the race as usual. On the other hand the albums chart will find Sam Ryder's deluxe version of his first album hitting the number one spot for the first time.It's been a great year for Sam after the Eurovision contest with singles, collabs and live shows that put him in the spotlight of the Uk music scene.This single may be his best in my ears with a dance beat, great vocals that pumping and a la Police guitar riffs that makes this tune a bop.I d like to see this one on the Uk chart right after Christmas...

 It seems we can't escape the oldies but if we have the wonderfull vocal chords of Adam Lambert covering Duran Duran then we want more.And more you ll get since his brand new album "High Drama" has 11 cover songs from every genre.The 1993 classic by Duran Duran has gained this title worthy.And there are not many times that i say that this cover is equal to the original although it's different.This sensitive piano driven cover of "Ordinary World" gives you the chills and would make Duran Duran proud and jealous.Speechless...

 Music gives you the ability to travel to different parts of the world as well in time.One way or another we stay at the 80s but we move to Romania where WRS aka Andrei Ursu makes another cover from the golden age.Together with David Goldcher they reinvent the 1987 hit by Gupsy Kings "Bamboleo". The latin smash that was played everywhere back then loses in this cover a big part of the original temperamento in order to gain a pop dance beat.Prefer the original but this may make some waves around cause it was a smash.

The fact is that i really didn't expecting from her that sound and finally we have real songs that someone can really sing along.This is surely one of the best songs in her album and won't be the last on my blog."Nobody Gets Me" and most songs from her album will monopoly the charts next week with a bright future for most of them in 2023.This particular song sounds like a Taylor Swift song in so many ways with great melody, beautiful vocals by SZA and a timeless quality throughout the whole process that makes you wanna hear it again and again.Outstanding result and definitely an album you should make your own..

NO RESOLVE - HALLELUJAH

 With Mariah Carey sitting on her Christmas throne in both sides of the Atlantic as expected once more and the charts full of festive songs the only disturbance comes from Metro Boomin's songs from his album "Villains & Heroes" that gained too much streaming these days with "Creeping" entering the Billboard top 5 as a new entry.It's just Christmas even for music and No Resolve who lately are making covers after their "Kiss From A Rose" rock version here comes the "Halleluhaj" just right for the period rock version. The classic Leonard Cohen's song has over the years multiple covers and this one is rather interesting if you want something different from jingle bells and Christmas carols..
